Reflection Final My spiritual life was completely changed the day Spiritual Formation started. I was so excited to share my love with the Lord. My spiritual life before this class was mediocre, it was barely spiritual. Coming from a background of not attending church regularly, never talking about God, or having a non-spiritual family member, really put an effect on me. I really learned that my spiritual values are important. I take everything in a serious matter too. Talking about God with other people used to be such a horrid thing for me. I always thought I would say something that wouldn’t make sense. So, I never talked. Now, I can talk about God, my spiritual disciplines and other stuff bible related without freaking out. How could I†¦show more content†¦I think fasting is such a good idea. I’m definitely going to do a technology fast in the near future, and a food fast right after Christmas! The worship discipline was intriguing too. People interpret wors hip as a once of week thing. Worship is more than that, something you should do every day. As I went to spiritual formation, I left the class with so many questions. I have constant questions about God and the Bible. I don’t ask those questions to anyone but my father. I feel when I ask my dad, I get better answers from him than anyone else. My life with God has grown so much within the past month. I feel more mentally and emotionally stable. One thing I question is why people claim themselves as Christians. Along with the worship discipline, why do people say, â€Å"Oh! I love church! I know every book of the bible and my favorite Bible verse is blah blah blah.† I know that one person hasn’t gone to church in 7 years, and I know I’ve heard them trashing the Lord. I just want to know how to help them. I also just want to know why people claim something they’re not. So, what? The most impactful parts of Spiritual Formation were the testimonies. I lo ved hearing every ones’ stories. I loved learning about someone else’s aspects of life on where they met God. I know some stories were pretty basic, but a lot were truly impactful. This morning I stepped in doggy poopy. My parents told me time and time again to walk on the driveway and avoid the yard, but because I think I know everything, I knew that the shortest distance between two points (in my case the house and car) was a straight line. Besides, I knew that many things parents say are insignificant. A few years ago I learned the secret of parenting. While snooping around my parents’ room, I found a book entitled How to Make Your Kids Eat Spinach and Other Green Things: A Manual for the Domestically Challenged. It was hidden behind a jar of teeth (my mom was the Tooth Fairy by night) and was covering a rubber mask (my dad was the Boogie Man). The author was some doctor, but he only had a Ph.D. so I knew he wasn’t credible. I revisited this book whenever my parents gave me instructions (â€Å"Jerica, clean your room. I had barely 10 minutes to get to the bus stop, so I acted fast, not really thinking about what I was going to do to fix the problem. I’ll leave the grotesque details to the power of imagination. During school, as I constantly smelled the evidence of recent events, I conceived a bazillion different ways I could have handled the situation. Needless to say, it seemed my shoe emitted an unpleasant stench all day. Removing the falling star I had caught when I was six from my pocket I was saving it for a rainy day but supposed this was as good a time as any I wished that no one would detect the odor. People often take short cuts in life, but embracing the easy way is useful only because it often leads to mistakes, which in turn causes people to learn, grow and move on. Even though I know everything, I still make a lot of mistakes. I know that the problems and trials I encounter help mold me into perfection. They may be difficult, but one day, when I am old and gray, I will lose my sense of smell and be able to step in all the doggy poopy I want. Everyone should step in it once in a while. It reminds them to watch where they are going in life, helping to return them to the right path. Also, I would never have learned as much as I have, and that is saying a lot considering (I am sure the reader remembers) I know everything.

When a love is mutual, lovers find themselves compelled to communicate the love between them, for example, expressing love in a solid form such as poetry. The rhythmic flow, vivid imagery, and ability to encapsulate abstract emotions makes poetry the perfect medium for expressing romantic love. This type of poetry is so popular; it has become a separate genre called 'Love Poems.' Traditionally, love poems render the beloved as an ideal of perfection, placing the lover on a pedestal. John Fredrick Nims's Love Poem however, beautifully contradicts this tradition by describing a love that transcends human faults. The poem is written to, and about, a woman who possesses this kind of love, and the speaker is a man thinking about the adoration that he and others feel for his beloved. The poem's images present the dominant theme that a genuine love and caring for hum anity--a graceful and beautiful soul--can exist beneath an awkward surface. Although the speaker offers images of the woman as clumsy and destructive, he also presents a gentle side to contrast her awkward nature. The images of the first stanza portray a woman's awkwardness with daily tasks. For example, the woman is a person whose hands shipwreck vases, /At whose quick touch all glasses chip and ring, /Whose palms are bulls in china, burs in linen (lines 2-4). In this hyperbole, the woman's hands are personified as if they move of their own volition. By doing so, Nims absolves his beloved of blame. The continuance of this theme through the striking image of shipwreck vases suggests a force spun out of control, as if her hands were chaotically destructive, as storms are to ships. This image is again reinforced by the idea of wild bulls breaking glass in china shops. In the china shop, her hands are powerful but out of place. The woman's ineptness is further described as A wrench in clocks and the solar system (line 13), making her clumsiness seem timeless and eternal. However, it is in fact her benevolent nature that transcends time and place. The second stanza highlights the contrast between the woman's ineptness to her external environment and her internal grace. She gives solace to others in need, providing stability to the wavering of the drunk's undulant floor (line 8). This act of kindness is done deftly (line 7), with skill and grace that directly oppose her clumsiness with inanimate objects. Striking contrasts of imagery continue to portray the speaker's affection for his Unpredictable dear (line 9), whose traffic of wit can expertly manoeuvre (line 15) itself, whilst her driving skills are presented through the hyperbole of red apoplectic streetcars (line 11). Here the personified images of vehicles behaving both angry and terrified in her presence blatantly juxtapose her composure and cleverness when it comes to dealing with human beings and their emotions.
